The "before" me. As many of you know, I have been a competitive swimmer since I was six years old. When not in the pool, you could find me flipping around the house, cooking and baking, hanging out with friends, or planning our next family adventure.

Then, in the summer of 2020 during practice I had my first charley horse. Within weeks, I was having muscle cramps/spasms in both legs at least 6-7 times per day no matter whether I was in the pool, sitting at the table doing schoolwork, or laying flat in my bed. My parents forced me to pause swimming by early Fall. Eventually both of my lower legs were in constant pain. We tried everything from tonic water to epsom salt baths to supplements to muscle relaxers.Nothing was giving me any relief. By January of 2021 I wasn't able to sleep more than an hour or two every 24 hours which lead to additional problems. Throughout all of this, my pediatrician tested me for all sorts of things and referred me to several specialists (Neurologists, Orthopedic Surgeon, Anesthesiologist, Rheumatologist, Endocrinologist, ect). I've had MRIs, X-Rays, and an EMG. My Vitamin D levels kept dropping and my Strep titers kept rising but neither could be explained. I never received an official diagnosis. I was just being passed from one doctor to the next.

By the grace of God, in June 2021 my cramps decreased and eventually my pain stopped. Now I am sleeping through the night again and am able to attend school. However, I am still not back in the pool, I continue to need more rest than a normal teenager, my Vitamin D continues to drop and my Strep titers continue to rise. I started working with a Functional Medicine doctor in September to try to get to the root of the problem. After more testing, the Functional Medicine doctor found other hormonal problems and is confident the cause is environmental toxins. The environmental toxin levels found in my system are triple what is considered safe causing inflammation and wrecking havoc on my hormones. My parents recently purchased a water filtration system for our house and are working to address other areas as well.  Next up is to go through a two-week Cellular Cleanse.  Here's where I need your help. The cost of the program is several thousand dollars, insurance doesn't help at all, and my parents just finished paying the medical bills from last year. I am hoping to raise $5k to help offset the cost of this two week program and would greatly appreciate any amount that you can donate.
